One option for types of nursing programs is a hospital program which offers a diploma in nursing. It is actually easier to change your mind and your career if you think you want to be a nurse but realize you do not after participating in a hospital based diploma program.
Another of the types of nursing programs available is, of course, attending the traditional college or university. There, you will find nursing diploma and associate nursing degree programs. Associate's degree typically last 2 years. An accelerated version of a bachelor's degree in nursing can be finished in 3 years, but a typical bachelor's degree takes four years. At a college or university, you can also take advantage of undergraduate programs to obtain a bachelor's of science in nursing if you already have status as a registered nurse. For this option, you can graduate in only one to two years. Choose a degree program where you can get the best opportunity for when you get out of school. You also have the option of graduate programs to obtain a master of science in nursing. If you already have a bachelor's of science in nursing, you can obtain MSN status in one or two years.
There are other types of nursing programs online. You cannot obtain clinical experience online, but you can get textbook based learning online. Before you attend an online school, make sure the school is accredited and the credits are valid and transferable. Online courses are most often available for those who already have an associate's degree in nursing and want to expand to achieve additional status such as that of a bachelor's or master's degree.
