Most medical schools require this type of exam prior to being accepted at a college and as part of the application process. The test takes eight hours and is regulated by the AAMC. How can you register? You can register for the MCAT on the AAMC web site at www.aamc.org. What you need to know about the MCAT is that the exam will be altered from a paper and pencil exam to a computer based exam beginning in 2007.
The sections that make up the exam are also what you need to know about the MCAT. There are four basic sections to the exam. One such section deals with the physical sciences. You have an hour and 40 minutes to complete 77 multiple choice questions. Another section of the MCAT is verbal reasoning. For the verbal reasoning portion, you will be given 60 multiple choice questions and an hour and 25 minutes to complete it. A third part of the MCAT is the writing section. Here you will be asked for a writing sample in which you have two essay questions to answer and one hour with which to answer. The last MCAT section focuses on biological sciences. The biological sciences section composes 77 multiple choice questions, and you have a time frame of one hours and 40 minutes to complete it. The biological sciences section is similar to the physical sciences section in the time allotment and number and type of questions asked. The only difference is the subject matter.
What you need to know about the MCAT also includes the price. Going to medical school is expensive but worth it if it helps you reach your goals. The testing expense for the MCAT registration fee is $200. Now, what about the important of the MCAT sores? Most United States medical schools weight equally both your GPA as well as your MCAT scores. If your MCAT score is higher than your GPA, the MCAT score are more focused on. MCAT scores are indeed important! Also, some medical schools will not even consider you if your MCAT score is too low.
Although the MCAT registration fee is $200, your score is released to you, any AMCA associated medical school you are applying to and authorize release to, and up to 6 non AMCA participating colleges for free.
